SCHOOL PICTURE DAY
Please note our school picture day is scheduled for Tuesday, October 24th. Students in K3-11th grade must be dressed in their school uniform and will be photographed as individuals and as a class for our yearbook. Order forms have been sent home with each student and payment is due at the camera. Seniors only are allowed to wear Sunday Dress. Senior girls: Modest blouse with sleeves and knee-length skirt or dress. Senior boys: Dress pants and shirt with tie.
VISION AND HEARING SCREENINGS – THURSDAY, OCTOBER 26TH
On Thursday representatives from the Maryland Department of Health will be on campus to conduct vision and hearing screenings on some of our students. Students in K4, K5, 1st, 4th, 8th grade and all new students will be screened for free. If you would like your child to be screened please contact the School Office. Thank you.
GRANDPARENTS’ DAY – FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27th
Again this year we are planning a Fall Harvest Festival for our Grandparents. Parents, we need your help in order to make this day a success! If you would be willing to volunteer, please contact the School Office. Please make sure you R.S.V.P. if your child’s grandparents will be attending so we can prepare. The cost is $3.00 per child and grandparents are free. Reminder: School will dismiss at 12:00 noon on Grandparents’ Day and there will not be Aftercare.
GRANITE LUNCH ROOM CLOSED – FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 3rd
The lunch room will not be available for heat-ups or lunch orders on Friday, November 3rd. Please send in a disposable sack lunch with drink for your child on this date. Thank you!
BASKETBALL SEASON PASS
This year we are offering season passes to all of our home basketball games and tournaments. Season pass holders will save approximately 50% if they attend every home game. The price is $35 per adult, $20 per child and a $100 family max for immediate family members (i.e. mother, father, child). The regular ticket price is $3.00 per adult and $2.00 per student, per game. If you are interested please come to the School Office to purchase your season pass. Let’s go Braves!
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, during the childhood years it is extremely important to ensure children are eating properly. This not only includes the quality of meals but the frequency as well. The school day can be both mentally and physically taxing and is too long to go without eating a meal unless the child has consciously decided that he or she wishes to commit that time to prayer and fasting. With that in mind, it is the policy of GBS to never allow a child to go hungry if they forgot to bring their lunch or do not have money to purchase one. In the event a child does not have a lunch, he or she will be provided a sandwich and a carton of milk for the cost of $1.75.
We wish to remind families that due to changes in Maryland state law, if a student needs to receive any medication at school, (including over-the-counter) we must have a medication form on file signed by your child’s doctor. The medication ordered by the doctor should be sent in with the child’s name on it.
STUDENT DROP-OFF—STOP, DROP & ROLL
Parents, please help us in quickly exiting the children from your car in the morning in order to avoid back-ups on Oakwood Road. Please pull all the way down to the second stop sign at the back of the gym. Please have all coats, backpacks and lunches ready and have children exit from the right side of your vehicle. K3-K5 parents should use the lane directly in front of the Kindergarten modular. Parents should not exit their car while in the drop-off line. Thank you!
STUDENT DRESS FOR ATHLETIC GAMES
Student Spectators (Including Elementary): With the exception of special events school standard dress must be worn for all school activities including after school games, Saturday tournaments and evening events.
School standard dress must be worn for all school activities. Students are not allowed to change out of their school uniform for any reason other than P.E. or sports practice. Students who are not leaving school immediately after P.E. or practice must change back into their school uniform for aftercare and/or games. Important: Parents please remember that gym shoes for indoor P.E. and for rainy day recess must have a non-marking sole. We recommend Velcro fastened shoes if your child cannot tie his/her shoes.
Please remember that students who are ill or have a fever are not permitted to attend class and should not be brought to school. A child who wakes up with a fever and is given Tylenol is still a sick child. Please do not send your child to school within a 24 hour period of fever, vomiting or diarrhea. No student with a temperature of 100 degrees or above will be allowed to remain in school. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
