About Us

Here's some more about us

Granite Baptist School was founded in 1975 as a ministry of Granite Baptist Church. GBS exists to ensure that all enrolled students learn. This learning will be focused upon the acquisition of a worldview drawn from the truths of Scripture and applied to the spiritual, academic, social and physical growth of its students. Granite Baptist School is not funded by the state or federal government. Our teaching staff is certified through the Professional Employee Certification Service and our school is accredited through the Mid-Atlantic Christian Accrediting Agency, the American Association of Christian Schools, the North American Christian School Accrediting Agency and the National Council for Private School Accreditation. GBS is registered with the Maryland State Department of Education as a Church-Exempt School, and as such we are considered a non-public school. We are also registered with MSDE to supervise home instruction. Our Pre-School and Extended Care Programs operate under a Letter of Compliance granted to us by the Maryland State Department of Education through the Office of Child Care. Our graduates have gone on to excel in Christian and secular colleges and universities both in Maryland and around the country. Among our Alumni are teachers, pastors, missionaries, doctors, nurses, police officers, fire fighters, business owners, government employees, members of the armed forces, and graduates of the National Service Academies.

Kindergarten Classes

Half-Day Kindergartens

Kindergarten classes meet five mornings per week from 8:15 – 11:50. Our K-3/K-4 programs include Bible, number and letter recognition, phonics, arithmetic, crafts and directed play. The K-5 curriculum is an advanced approach toward first grade readiness. While fluent reading is not our first priority, many students are reading very well by the end of the year. Basic math principles, elements of grammar, science, and social studies are included.

Full-Day Kindergartens

Full-day kindergarten students stay for lunch, rest and directed play until 3:00.

Before and After Care

Our morning watch program begins at 7:00 for those needing supervision prior to the start of the school day. There is no fee for morning watch. Our aftercare program is from 3:15 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. for K3 – 6th grade students, and from 3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. for Secondary students (7th-12th). Refer to the Aftercare Sign-up Form for fee specifics. Our pre-school and extended care program falls under a Letter of Compliance granted to us by the Maryland State Department of Education, through the Office of Child Care.

1st - 12th Grade Classes

Elementary Grades 1-6

We offer a Bible-centered curriculum that follows the basic scope and sequence of traditional instruction. We have a comprehensive phonics approach to reading, and a math program that balances traditional and modern math. Music, art instruction, and fine arts competition enhance the educational experience.

Junior High Grades 7-8

Granite Baptist Junior High School (grades 7-8) follows the regular curriculum for these levels. The Biblical emphasis and example of the faculty augment a strong academic program. We offer security to young people at a time in their lives when they may feel conflict between following the world and following the Lord. Our teachers are concerned beyond the routine academics of the classroom. We care for the spiritual well-being of each student.

High School Grades 9-12

Our high school students take both required and elective courses for the purpose of accumulating credits for graduation. We offer core subjects, higher level math and science courses, keyboarding, word processing, physical education, health, speech and foreign language.

Electives and Academic Information

Fine Arts

Yearbook, instrumental music lessons, band, choir, orchestra, newspaper, art, drama and creative writing along with opportunity to compete in Fine Arts are available for Fine Arts enrichment. Our athletic program includes soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball and cheerleading.

Statement of Enrollment Approval

We are not a reform school. Students who attend Granite Baptist School must exhibit a desire to do so and count it a privilege. Students will not be admitted to Granite Baptist School in the same academic year that they were dismissed from any other school. Students with disciplinary records will be considered for enrollment on a case-by-case basis and require approval by the Administration.

Statement of Non-Discrimination

Granite Baptist School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
