“GRANDPARENTS ARE ESSENTIAL” – GBS MODIFIED GRANDPARENTS’ DAY: FRIDAY, OCT. 30th

At GBS, we think Grandparents are essential and we are planning something very special for our modified GBS Grandparents’ Day this year.  Grandparents’ Day will start with an assembly in the church auditorium at 10:00 am.  Please ask your child’s grandparents to arrive at approximately 9:45 am and sign in at the welcome tables in front of the church auditorium.  School will dismiss at 12:00 noon on Grandparents’ Day and Aftercare will not be available.  Please note: Grandparents’ Day is optional for all students and their families and is subject to change based on inclement weather and/or emergency orders from the State or County.

VARSITY BASKETBALL

We are pleased to announce we will be having girls and boys varsity basketball this year.  All students 7th grade and up were given an information packet regarding our COVID-19 rules for basketball season.  Unfortunately, due to COVID-19,  home games will NOT be open to the public or visiting team fans for this season.  Only parents, grandparents and siblings of current GBS players will be permitted to attend home basketball games ALL fans will be temperature checked at the gate, must wear a mask and maintain social distancing during the games.  Thank you for your cooperation.  Let’s go Braves!!

EARLY DISMISSAL POLICY

Parents, if possible, please call the School Office or send in a note if your child will be signed out before the end of the school day.  All visitors will need to come to the School Office and ring the doorbell and wait outside the gymnasium doors for assistance.  Thank you.

AFTERCARE

As a reminder, our aftercare program is currently operating at a reduced capacity due to the ongoing pandemic.  While aftercare is available for those who need it, we ask that aftercare be used only by those families who find it absolutely necessary.  Thank you!

MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION

We wish to remind families that due to Maryland state law, if a student needs to receive any medication at school, we must have a medication form on file signed by your child’s doctor.  The medication ordered by the doctor should be sent in the original container with the child’s name on it.

STUDENT DROP-OFF—STOP, DROP & ROLL

Parents, please help us in quickly exiting the children from your car in the morning in order to avoid back-ups on Oakwood Road.  Please have all coats, backpacks, and lunches ready and have children exit from the right side of your vehicle.  K3-2nd grade parents should use the lane directly in front of the Kindergarten modular. Children 3rd grade and up may be dropped off in front of the church building.  Parents should not exit their car while in the drop-off line.  Thank you!

STUDENT DRESS

School standard dress must be worn for all school activities.  Students are not allowed to change out of their school uniform for any reason other than P.E. or sports practice.  Students who are not leaving school immediately after P.E. or practice must change back into their school uniform for aftercare and/or games.  Important:  Parents please remember that gym shoes for indoor P.E. and for rainy day recess must have a non-marking sole.  We recommend Velcro fastened shoes if your child cannot tie his/her shoes.

SICK POLICY

Please remember that students who are ill or have a fever are not permitted to attend class and should not be brought to school.  A child who wakes up with a fever and is given Tylenol is still a sick child.  Please do not send your child to school within a 48-hour period of fever, vomiting or diarrhea.  No student with a temperature of 100 degrees or above will be allowed to remain in school. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
