PSAT – WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14TH
Students in the 10th and 11th grades will be administered the PSAT test on Wednesday, October 14th. The PSAT will not only allow us to judge your child’s academic progress up to this point, but will also help to prepare them for the SAT. Parents should ensure students taking the test get as much rest as possible and eat a nutritious meal the morning of the test.
“GRANDPARENTS ARE ESSENTIAL” – GBS MODIFIED GRANDPARENTS’ DAY: FRIDAY, OCT. 30th
We are planning something special for our modified GBS Grandparents’ Day this year. Parents, we need your help in order to make this day a success! If you would be willing to volunteer, please contact the School Office. Please make sure you R.S.V.P. if your elementary child’s grandparents will be attending so we can prepare. The cost is $3.00 per child and grandparents are free. School will dismiss at 12:00 noon on this date and Aftercare will not be available. (Please note: Grandparents’ Day is optional for all students and their families and is subject to change based on emergency orders from the State or County.)
SCHOOL PICTURE DAY
Flyers have been sent home with all students about our upcoming school picture day which is Tuesday, October 20th. Lifetouch will not be doing the group (class) pictures at this time. If you would like to purchase your child’s photo, please fill out the form that was sent home and return the money to the photographer on Tuesday the 20th. Parents can choose to purchase the photos online at www.mylifetouch.com.
As a reminder, our aftercare program is currently operating at a reduced capacity due to the ongoing pandemic. While aftercare is available for those who need it, we ask that aftercare be used only by those families who find it absolutely necessary. Thank you!
SCHOOLCAST TEXT MESSAGING
At this point in the year we have sent out a few text messages using our SchoolCast text messaging system. Please contact the School Office if you are not receiving these text messages. Thank you!
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, during the childhood years it is extremely important to ensure children are eating properly. This not only includes the quality of meals but the frequency as well. The school day can be both mentally and physically taxing and is too long to go without eating a meal unless the child has consciously decided that he or she wishes to commit that time to prayer and fasting. With that in mind, it is the policy of GBS to never allow a child to go hungry if they forgot to bring their lunch or do not have money to purchase one. In the event a child does not have a lunch, he or she will be provided a sandwich and a carton of milk for the cost of $1.75.
Seniors, the senior portrait session with Lifetouch has been rescheduled to Friday, November 20th at 9:00 am. Seniors should be receiving an information packet in the mail from Lifetouch.
STUDENT DROP-OFF—STOP, DROP & ROLL
Parents, please help us in quickly exiting the children from your car in the morning in order to avoid back-ups on Oakwood Road. Please have all coats, backpacks, and lunches ready and have children exit from the right side of your vehicle. K3-2nd grade parents should use the lane directly in front of the Kindergarten modular. Children 3rd grade and up may be dropped off in front of the church building. Parents should not exit their car while in the drop-off line. Thank you!
We wish to remind families that due to Maryland state law, if a student needs to receive any medication at school, we must have a medication form on file signed by your child’s doctor. The medication ordered by the doctor should be sent in the original container with the child’s name on it.
Please remember that students who are ill or have a fever are not permitted to attend class and should not be brought to school. A child who wakes up with a fever and is given Tylenol is still a sick child. Please do not send your child to school within a 48-hour period of fever, vomiting or diarrhea. No student with a temperature of 100 degrees or above will be allowed to remain in school. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
School standard dress must be worn for all school activities. Students are not allowed to change out of their school uniform for any reason other than P.E. or sports practice. Students who are not leaving school immediately after P.E. or practice must change back into their school uniform for aftercare and/or games. Important: Parents please remember that gym shoes for indoor P.E. and for rainy day recess must have a non-marking sole. We recommend Velcro fastened shoes if your child cannot tie his/her shoes.
