Parent’s Page – Edition 3

Tina Romberger   -

Thursday, September 29th and Friday, September 30th all our teachers will be attending our annual Teacher Convention in Pennsylvania.   There will be no school on those days.

A table has been set up outside the School Office for parents to drop off forgotten materials.  All materials such as homework, books, clothing, projects, lunch boxes, etc. must be labeled with the child’s name and grade level. The front office staff will notify your student’s teacher that the materials are at the front office for the student to pick up.  For the lower grades (K3-K5) one of our teacher aides will deliver the materials to your child’s classroom.

During morning drop off there is only one lane for drop off in the back parking lot.  K3- K5 and 2nd grade parents should use the lane directly in front of the Kindergarten modular for drop off.  Children 3rd grade and up should be dropped off in front of the church building.  Children in 4th and 6th grade may choose to be dropped off in the back parking lot, but keep in mind that this line is slower as the aides must escort each kindergarten child into their classroom.  The speed limit is 5 mph at all times on our parking lot.  Please do not attempt to pass a car during the morning drop off for the safety of all children. Thank you.

The PSAT Testing for 10th and 11th grade students has been rescheduled to Tuesday, October 25th.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, during the childhood years it is extremely important to ensure children are eating properly.  This not only includes the quality of meals but the frequency as well.  The school day can be both mentally and physically taxing and is too long to go without eating a meal unless the child has consciously decided that he or she wishes to commit that time to prayer and fasting.  With that in mind, it is the policy of GBS to never allow a child to go hungry if they forgot to bring their lunch or do not have money to purchase one.  In the event a child does not have a lunch and a parent cannot be reached, he or she will be provided a sandwich and a carton of milk for the cost of $2.00.

We wish to remind families that due to Maryland state law, if a student needs to receive any medication at school, we must have a medication form on file signed by your child’s doctor.  The medication ordered by the doctor should be sent in the original container with the child’s name on it.

Information highlighting special events was given to all seniors at their senior meeting yesterday.  Parents, please call the School Office if you have any questions.  Thank you.

Our aftercare program locations are new for this year.  On Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays the aftercare students will be in Room #7.  On Wednesdays the aftercare will be in the gymnasium and on Fridays the aftercare will be in Room #5.  On sunny days our aftercare program will be outside on the playground.  Signs will be posted on the modular doors to help direct parents when picking up.

Parents, if for any reason you need to come to school during the day, please remember to check in at the School Office in the gymnasium.  No parent or family member should attempt to approach a classroom before first checking in with the School Office.  You must sign your name on our register and receive a visitor pass before proceeding to your child’s classroom.  This is part of our school security policy and ensures that we have a record of everyone on our campus at all times.  Thank you for your cooperation!

School standard dress must be worn for all school activities.  Students are not allowed to change out of their school uniform for any reason other than P.E. or sports practice.  Students who are not leaving school immediately after P.E. or practice must change back into their school uniform for aftercare and/or games.  Important:  Parents please remember that gym shoes for indoor P.E. and for rainy day recess must have a non-marking sole.  We recommend Velcro fastened shoes if your child cannot tie his/her shoes.

Please remember that students who are ill or have a fever are not permitted to attend class and should not be brought to school.  A child who wakes up with a fever and is given Tylenol is still a sick child.  Please do not send your child to school within a 48 hour period of fever, vomiting or diarrhea.  No student with a temperature of 100 degrees or above will be allowed to remain in school. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
