Parent’s Page – Edition 2
NO SCHOOL: TEACHER IN-SERVICE – SEPTEMBER 23rd and 24th
Thursday, September 23rd and Friday, September 24th all our teachers will be attending our annual Teacher Convention. There will be no school on those days.
SENIOR INFORMATION NIGHT: MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 27th
For our seniors and their parents, please plan to attend this evening especially planned for you. In addition to college information and preparing and taking the SAT, information will be given highlighting the events and activities of the senior year, what to expect, dates, and expenses. The meeting will be in the Great Room at 7 pm and we will finish no later than 8 pm. We are looking forward to an evening of fellowship with you.
SCHOOLCAST TEXT MESSAGING
At this point in the year we have sent out a few text messages using our SchoolCast text messaging system. Please contact the School Office if you are not receiving these text messages. Thank you!
PSAT – WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 13TH
Students in the 10th and 11th grades will be administered the PSAT test on Wednesday, October 13th. The PSAT will not only allow us to judge your child’s academic progress up to this point, but will also help to prepare them for the SAT. Parents should ensure students taking the test get as much rest as possible and eat a nutritious meal the morning of the test.
We wish to remind families that due to Maryland state law, if a student needs to receive any medication at school, we must have a medication form on file signed by your child’s doctor. The medication ordered by the doctor should be sent in the original container with the child’s name on it.
Parents, if for any reason you need to come to school during the day, please remember to check in at the School Office in the gymnasium. No parent or family member should attempt to approach a classroom before first checking in with the School Office. You must sign your name on our register and receive a visitor pass before proceeding to your child’s classroom. This is part of our school security policy and ensures that we have a record of everyone on our campus at all times. Thank you for your cooperation!
HOME SPORTS GAMES
We are pleased to be returning to fall varsity soccer and volleyball this school year. In order to ensure enough space for social distancing, home volleyball games will NOT be open to the public for this season. Only parents, grandparents and siblings of current GBS players will be permitted to attend home volleyball games. We ask that family members maintain social distancing during the games and not congregate in large groups after the games. Thank you for your cooperation. Let’s go Braves!!
STUDENT DROP-OFF—STOP, DROP & ROLL
Parents, please help us in quickly exiting the children from your car in the morning in order to avoid back-ups on Oakwood Road. Please have all coats, backpacks and lunches ready and have children exit from the right side of your vehicle. All Kindergartens and 2nd grade parents should use the lane directly in front of the Kindergarten modular. Children in 1st grade, 3rd grade and up may be dropped off in front of the church building. Parents should not exit their car while in the drop-off line. Thank you!
Parents, if your child has a food allergy we would like you to know that all of our pre-packaged hot foods in the lunchroom have the following on the label: “Food contains wheat, milk, eggs, and soy.” Our cheeseburgers contain sesame seeds.
As a reminder, on sunny days our aftercare program will be outside on the playground. If your elementary child participates in our aftercare program, please send them in with an extra water bottle to drink while outside after school. All book bags, lunch boxes, jackets, etc. should be labeled with your child’s name. Thank you!
SECONDARY AFTERCARE (6th – 12th grade)
Secondary students not picked up by 3:15 will need to report to the gym bleachers for aftercare. Parents will be required to sign out secondary students not picked up by 3:30.
School standard dress must be worn for all school activities. Students are not allowed to change out of their school uniform for any reason other than P.E. or sports practice. Students who are not leaving school immediately after P.E. or practice must change back into their school uniform for aftercare and/or games. Important: Parents please remember that gym shoes for indoor P.E. and for rainy day recess must have a non-marking sole. We recommend Velcro fastened shoes if your child cannot tie his/her shoes.
LOST AND FOUND
Articles in lost and found may only be claimed from 8:00 – 8:15 am, during lunch or from 3:00 – 3:15 pm. In order to encourage individual responsibility, a fee of $.25 for elementary students and $1.00 for secondary students will be assessed for each claimed item. Demerits will be given to secondary students that habitually lose articles.
Please remember that students who are ill or have a fever are not permitted to attend class and should not be brought to school. A child who wakes up with a fever and is given Tylenol is still a sick child. Please do not send your child to school within a 48 hour period of fever, vomiting or diarrhea. No student with a temperature of 100 degrees or above will be allowed to remain in school. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
