FALL SPIRIT DAY – MONDAY, OCTOBER 16th

We are planning our Fall Spirit Day for all students in 1st – 12th grade on Monday, October 16th.  We have scheduled a boys soccer game against Odenton at 1:00 pm and a girls varsity volleyball game at 2:00.  Lunch order forms are being sent home for students who are interested in purchasing a cook-out lunch.  The lunch room will not be available for heat-ups or lunch orders.  For Fall Spirit Day only, all students may wear a GBS Spirit shirt with their regular uniform skirt, pants or jumper (i.e. the new spirit shirts, P.E. shirt, Little Braves T-shirt, etc.)

LITTLE BRAVES SOCCER

Invitations to join Little Braves Soccer have been sent home with all students in K5-6th grade.  If your elementary child is interested in playing soccer, please read the information provided and send in the completed form and fee by Wednesday, October 11th.

ELEMENTARY GRANDPARENTS’ DAY – FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27th

Again this year we are planning a Fall Harvest Festival for our elementary Grandparents.  Parents, we need your help in order to make this day a success!  If you would be willing to volunteer, please contact the School Office.  Please make sure you R.S.V.P. if your child’s grandparents will be attending so we can prepare.  The cost is $5.00 per child and grandparents are free. School will dismiss at 12:00 noon on this date and Aftercare will not be available.

SENIOR INFORMATION

Information highlighting special events was given to all seniors at their senior meeting last week. Parents, please call the School Office if you have any questions.  Thank you.

SCHOOL LUNCH

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, during the childhood years it is extremely important to ensure children are eating properly.  This not only includes the quality of meals but the frequency as well.  The school day can be both mentally and physically taxing and is too long to go without eating a meal unless the child has consciously decided that he or she wishes to commit that time to prayer and fasting.  With that in mind, it is the policy of GBS to never allow a child to go hungry if they forgot to bring their lunch or do not have money to purchase one.  In the event a child does not have a lunch and a parent cannot be reached, he or she will be provided a sandwich and a carton of milk for the cost of $2.00.

FORGOTTEN MATERIALS TABLE

A table has been set up outside the School Office for parents to drop off forgotten materials.  All materials such as homework, books, clothing, projects, lunch boxes, etc. must be labeled with the child’s name and grade level. The front office staff will notify your student’s teacher that the materials are at the front office for the student to pick up.  For the lower grades (K3-K5) one of our teacher aides will deliver the materials to your child’s classroom.

FOOD ALLERGIES

Parents, if your child has a food allergy we would like you to know that all of our pre-packaged hot foods in the lunchroom have the following on the label: “Food contains wheat, milk, eggs, and soy.”  Our cheeseburgers contain sesame seeds.

ELEMENTARY AFTERCARE

If your elementary child participates in our aftercare program, please send them in with an extra water bottle to drink while outside after school. Some students may also be in need of an after-school snack which can be sent in their lunchbox.  All book bags, lunch boxes, jackets, etc. should be labeled with your child’s name.  Thank you!

VISITOR POLICY

Parents, if for any reason you need to come to school during the day, please remember to check in at the School Office in the gymnasium.  No parent or family member should attempt to approach a classroom before first checking in with the School Office.  You must sign your name on our register and receive a visitor pass before proceeding to your child’s classroom.  This is part of our school security policy and ensures that we have a record of everyone on our campus at all times.  Thank you for your cooperation!

STUDENT DRESS

School standard dress must be worn for all school activities.  Students are not allowed to change out of their school uniform for any reason other than P.E. or sports practice.  Students who are not leaving school immediately after P.E. or practice must change back into their school uniform for aftercare and/or games.  Important:  Parents please remember that gym shoes for indoor P.E. and for rainy day recess must have a non-marking sole.  We recommend Velcro fastened shoes if your child cannot tie his/her shoes.

SICK POLICY

Please remember that students who are ill or have a fever are not permitted to attend class and should not be brought to school.  A child who wakes up with a fever and is given Tylenol is still a sick child.  Please do not send your child to school within a 24 hour period of fever, vomiting or diarrhea.  No student with a temperature of 100 degrees or above will be allowed to remain in school. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
